From Project Management to Market Leadership

Lofthouse’s career path wasn’t a straight shot to the CEO’s office. Her journey began in project and product management at Reuters, followed by a stint in technology consulting with Andersen Consulting. This early exposure to diverse facets of the business world instilled in her a keen understanding of process optimization and strategic planning – skills that would prove invaluable later in her career.

In 1998, Lofthouse made the pivotal move to J.P. Morgan in London, where she spent over a decade honing her expertise in various financial market segments, including futures and OTC clearing, derivatives prime brokerage, credit markets, and cash equities. This broad exposure solidified her understanding of the intricate workings of financial markets and the delicate interplay between different asset classes.

A Passion for Clearing and Derivatives

In 2011, Lofthouse joined UBS as a Managing Director, taking on the global responsibility for the OTC clearing business. This role placed her at the heart of a critical function within the financial ecosystem, ensuring the smooth and secure settlement of over-the-counter (OTC) derivatives transactions. Her leadership in this domain reflects her deep understanding of risk management and the importance of fostering stability within the financial system.

Joining the ASX and Rising Through the Ranks

Lofthouse’s impressive track record caught the attention of the ASX, and in September 2015, she embarked on a new chapter in her career by joining the Australian exchange. Her initial role as Executive General Manager of Derivatives and OTC Markets allowed her to leverage her expertise in these areas to directly contribute to the ASX’s core operations.

Lofthouse’s dedication and strategic vision didn’t go unnoticed. She was subsequently promoted to Group Executive, Markets, where she oversaw ASX’s largest revenue-generating division. This role encompassed cash and derivatives trading across equities, interest rates, commodities, and energy products. Additionally, she spearheaded ASX’s international business development teams, the benchmarks business, and derivatives and OTC clearing.

Lofthouse’s approach to leadership goes beyond just numbers and market trends. She describes herself as a “people person” with a customer-centric mindset. This focus on building strong relationships with stakeholders – including customers, regulators, and industry partners – is a cornerstone of her leadership philosophy.
