Ammonia, a cornerstone of modern agriculture and industry, faces a significant environmental challenge. Traditional ammonia production methods contribute substantially to global greenhouse gas emissions. Danish startup NitroVolt is on a mission to empower farmers with sustainable, green ammonia production right on their farms! Co-founded by Suzanne Zamany Andersen and Mattia Saccoccio, NitroVolt spun out from the Technical University of Denmark and is set to disrupt the traditional ammonia supply chain with its cutting-edge Nitrolyzer technology..

A Green Revolution in Ammonia Production

NitroVolt’s vision is to revolutionize ammonia production by developing a technology that leverages renewable energy sources to synthesize ammonia directly from air, water, and electricity. This decentralized approach eliminates the need for large-scale, carbon-intensive production facilities and transportation infrastructure.

Product: The Nitrolyzer
The Nitrolyzer is an on-site, container-sized system that produces green ammonia with just air, water, and green electricity. For farmers, this technology means self-sufficiency: they can create nitrogen-based fertilizer directly, reducing reliance on complex supply chains while also significantly reducing CO₂ emissions. Currently, traditional ammonia production accounts for around 2% of global emissions, but NitroVolt’s process is 100% sustainable, responsive to intermittent energy sources, and designed to make a real environmental and societal impact.

Meet the Key Innovators
CEO Suzanne Zamany Andersen, Ph.D., brings extensive expertise as a physicist with a deep commitment to making a lasting, positive impact. Her vision is clear: tackle climate challenges by providing accessible green solutions to farmers, ultimately reducing hunger and promoting food security globally. CTO Mattia Saccoccio, Ph.D. in Mechanical and Energy Engineering, engineered the scalable Nitrolyzer flow system, aiming to bridge laboratory innovation with real-world solutions.

The Science Behind the Solution

NitroVolt’s technology is rooted in advanced electrochemical processes. By harnessing renewable energy sources, the company can efficiently convert nitrogen and hydrogen from air and water into ammonia. This innovative approach offers a sustainable alternative to traditional ammonia production methods.

A Sustainable Future for Agriculture

By providing farmers with a decentralized solution for producing green ammonia, NitroVolt aims to enhance food security and reduce the environmental impact of agriculture. The company’s technology can empower farmers to become more self-reliant and resilient to supply chain disruptions.

A Bright Future for NitroVolt

NitroVolt’s impressive progress and strong investor backing signal a promising future for the company. As the world increasingly seeks sustainable solutions, NitroVolt’s green ammonia technology has the potential to make a significant impact on the global energy landscape.

Scaling Up the Green Solution
